the aluminium case shields your cards, slides them out in one motion and can be repaired years later, and nobody takes that away from secrid. what it costs is the room it takes in a pocket.
our answer
same width, built differently
ours is exactly as wide as theirs, so the cards sit the same way inside. the difference is what sits around them: a payment card is 0.76 mm thick, and our folded wallet is about 4 of those stacked, theirs about 28.
it is one sheet of dupont™ tyvek that we fold and glue by hand, and empty it weighs about as much as a single euro coin. theirs weighs about ten of them.
inside there are 3 card slots and 2 more along the sides, one of which is a strap on the outside. the card you reach for most lives there, so you pay without opening the wallet. notes go in flat, without folding them first.

what secrid does better than we do
the aluminium case keeps cards from bending and shields them, and secrid had that tested at tno and tüv. we leave shielding out on purpose: the chip runs the payment with a one-time token, so a number read off a card is not enough by itself. if you want shielding anyway, an rfid-blocking card between the others does the job.
their wallet can also be repaired. the felt inside the cardprotector is the first part to wear, secrid says so in its own help pages, and a care and repair point fixes it within minutes; a warranty return even comes with a prepaid label. that is a real advantage and there is no point playing it down.
wear
what wears out, on theirs and on ours
ours wears somewhere else. tyvek softens with use and takes on a patina along the folds, because it is a sheet of fibres rather than leather. with normal carry that is a question of years, and in a stuffed wallet pulled open every day the print rubs down sooner.
